GOVERNMENT HOUSE.
HONGKONG. 26th February, 1923.
My Lord Duke,
I have the honour to invite attention to my
despatch No.214 of the 2nd of June, 1922, with regard to
the claim of the Tei Yan Steam Launch Company to compenset-i ion in respect of the taking over by the Government of the
Yaumati Ferry.
At the request of the Colonial Office
I discussed this matter with Mr. Lewis of the firm of
Messrs. Johnson, Stokes and Master while I was in England. I informed him that I could not agree to the payment of any compensation in respect of the loss of anticipated profitę but that I was willing to consider in a generous spirit any
c) aims in respect of compensation for the resumption of
piers or loss on disposs) of launches. Since then I have
heard nothing of the metter but Messrs. Johnson, Stokes
end Master are now asking for a reply to the petition which
was enclosed in my despatch under reference.
3.
I see no ground for altering the views which,
I have previously expressed and I repeat the recommendations
contained in the last paragraph of that despatch.
